Paramount Pictures decided to give the trailer for Transformers One – a CG-animated film that unveils the early days of Optimus Prime and Megatron – a bit of a different release: having it launch in space on a weather balloon! Take a look at the space-launching trailer above or watch the trailer in regular form below.

The film tells the origin story of Optimus Prime (aka Orion Pax) and Megatron (aka D-16) and takes us back to when they were best of friends, bonded like brothers on Cybertron. We’ll witness what went down, not only destroying their friendship, but changing the fate of Cybertron forever and setting them on a collision course as respective leaders of Autobots and Decepticons.

Quite the voice ensemble here, including Chris Hemsworth as Orion Pax / Optimus Prime, Brian Tyree Henry as D-16 / Megatron, Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1, Keegan-Michael Key as B-127 / Bumblebee, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, and Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion.

Director is Josh Cooley, who helmed Disney•Pixar’s Toy Story 4. The screenplay was penned by Ant-Man and the Wasp scribes Gabriel Ferrari and Andrew Barrer.

Transformers One will open in Australian cinemas on September 19th and US cinemas on September 20th.
