Zach Braff Talks ‘Scrubs’ Reboot: “I Think It’s Gonna Happen”

Zach Braff, who played Dr. John Michael “J.D.” Dorian in the beloved hospital-set comedy series Scrubs, has expressed his enthusiasm for a potential reboot.

During a conversation with ET, the 49-year-old actor shared some insights into what’s been holding up the much-anticipated return of the show.

“I’m gonna tell you something that nobody else is gonna get,” Braff revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “Scrubs is a Disney show. Bill [Lawrence, creator] has a Warner Bros. deal. Once those two companies figure that out, I think the people will get what they want. I think it’s gonna happen.”

When asked if he was eager to step back into the shoes of J.D., Braff’s response was filled with excitement. “Are you kidding me? It would be so much fun [with] all my favourite people. We all still hang out. A lot of people who were on long shows say that, but it’s true,” he said. “I was just on vacation with Sarah Chalke… I’m going to the beach with Bill next weekend. We’re all friends.”

Adding further promise, Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence has also shared positive sentiments regarding a continuation of the show. In an interview with LADbible earlier this month, Lawrence candidly spoke about the possibility, saying, “Yeah, you know, I’m really candid about it. We’re definitely going to do it, just because we’ve all been enjoying hanging out.”

Lawrence further elaborated on his thoughts, stating, “So I’m open to it. I’m open to it, and I don’t want to do it as a movie, but I’m definitely open to doing a couple more years of that show.”

The idea of revisiting the characters and exploring what a young doctor looks like in today’s world seems to be a driving force behind Lawrence’s interest. “It would not only be fun to see where the characters I used to love are now, but also to see what a young doctor nowadays looks like, as far as the kids coming in behind them, you know.”

As for the timeline, Lawrence hinted that fans might not have to wait too long for an official update. “So we’ve been talking a lot about it, and I think we’ll figure it out in the next six months or so what we want to do. I’m just busy too, man, in a great way.”

While nothing is set in stone just yet, it seems that the odds of a Scrubs reboot are looking increasingly promising. Fans of the show, stay tuned—your favourite doctors may be scrubbing back in sooner than you think.
