Paramount Pictures has unveiled the big official trailer for Babylon, the star-studded new film from La La Land, Whiplash, and First Man filmmaker Damien Chazelle.

Set in 1920s Los Angeles, the film tells an epic tale of outsized ambition and outrageous excess, tracing the rise and fall of multiple characters during an era of unbridled decadence and depravity in early Hollywood. The film’s impressive cast includes Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Diego Calva, Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li, Jean Smart, Tobey Maguire, and Samara Weaving, among others.

Some mixed early reactions coming for this one, with some praising the 188-minute film’s in-your-face approach and others rolling their eyes at the indulgence. It certainly looks to be an attention-grabbing work – and I, for one, can’t wait to see what Chazelle has in store.

Babylon will be opening in US cinemas on December 23rd and hits Australian cinemas on January 19th.
