Charlie Kaufman is stepping back behind the camera – and he has Eddie Redmayne, Tessa Thompson, and Patsy Ferran on board to star.
The Oscar-winning screenwriter and director Kaufman, known for his cerebral and often surreal storytelling, has lined up his next project: Later the War. Kaufman will write and direct the film, an adaptation of Debby’s Dream House, a short story by Israeli author Iddo Gefen from his collection Jerusalem Beach.
While exact plot details for the film remain under wraps, the original story follows a man who manufactures dreams for people—until those dreams twist into nightmares. Given Kaufman’s track record, it’s safe to assume his version will lean into the existential and psychological, much like his previous work on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Synecdoche, New York, and I’m Thinking of Ending Things.
