The official teaser trailer has arrived for Emancipation, an Apple TV+ feature starring Will Smith. It’s the actor’s first release since, you know.

Based on the true story of an American slave known as “Gordon” (wiki page on the fascinating man HERE), Emancipation has Smith playing a runaway slave who forges through the swamps of Louisiana on a tortuous journey to escape plantation owners that nearly killed him. Ben Foster plays Fassel, one of the men stopping at nothing to hunt him down.

The film is directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Equalizer) and written by Bill Collage (Exodus: Gods and Kings, Assassin’s Creed), with cinematography by Robert Richardson (Kill Bill, The Aviator), score by Marcelo Zarvos (Fences, The Guilty), and production design by Naomi Shohan (American Beauty, I Am Legend).

Emancipation will be receiving a U.S. theatrical release on December 2nd and is streaming on Apple TV+ from December 9th.
