A new red band trailer has dropped for Faces of Death, a modern reimagining of the infamous horror title from the late 1970s. The new trailer makes the plot much clearer and, of course, offers a stronger tease of the brutality in store. A Viral Nightmare Built on “Real” Horror
This new Faces of Death centres on a content moderator (Barbie Ferreira, House of Spoils) who stumbles across a wave of deeply disturbing videos circulating online: clips that appear to recreate the grisly deaths from the notorious 1978 cult film of the same name. What begins as routine moderation quickly spirals into something darker and more obsessive, as she starts to question whether what she’s seeing is staged or happening in real time.
Here, the “is it real?” question is not aimed so much at the cinema audience as at the characters within the story. Ferreira’s moderator knows the history of the original film, yet even she begins to question what’s authentic as the videos grow more extreme.
The trailer makes it clear that the film is tapping into modern anxieties around digital consumption, algorithm-driven content, and the ease with which violent imagery can spread. There’s a chilling thread running through it all: in a space where everything is content, the line between performance and reality becomes dangerously thin.
“It is the attention economy, and baby, business is booming,” says Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things) as the trailer closes.
Cast and Director
Alongside Ferreira and Montgomery, the film stars Josie Totah, Aaron Holliday, Jermaine Fowler, and Charli XCX.
The film comes from director Daniel Goldhaber, known for Cam and How to Blow Up a Pipeline, working again with co-writer Isa Mazzei.
Release Date
Faces of Death is set to hit U.S. cinemas on April 10.
