The first official trailer has arrived for It Ends With Us, an adaptation of the 2016 novel of the same name by bestselling author Colleen Hoover.

Marking the first of Hoover’s novels to be adapted for the big screen, It Ends With Us delves into the tumultuous journey of Lily Bloom, portrayed by Blake Lively. Lily is a resilient woman who, despite a traumatic childhood, relocates to Boston to pursue her dream of opening a flower shop. Her path crosses with Ryle Kincaid, a charismatic neurosurgeon played by the film’s director, Justin Baldoni (Five Feet Apart), and an intense romance blossoms. However, as their relationship deepens, Lily begins to recognise unsettling parallels between Ryle’s behaviour and the abusive dynamics of her parents’ marriage.

The plot thickens when Lily’s first love, Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar, 1923), reappears in her life. His sudden return forces Lily to confront her past and the complicated emotions she still harbours. As her relationship with Ryle begins to unravel, Lily must summon the strength to make a life-altering decision about her future, navigating a complex web of love, loyalty, and self-discovery.

The film’s cast includes Jenny Slate, Hasan Minhaj, Amy Morton, and Brandon Sklenar. The adapted screenplay was penned by Christy Hall, co-creator of Netflix series I Am Not Okay With This and helmer/writer of Sean Penn and Dakota Johnson film Daddio. Hall also produces the film alongside Alex Saks, Jamey Heath, and Christy Hall. Lively is among the executive producers.

It Ends With Us will open in Australian cinemas on August 8 and US cinemas on August 9.
