The trailer has arrived for Martin Scorsese‘s Killers of the Flower Moon, a period crime-drama that the filmmaker has had in the works since 2017.

Apple Studios scored the high-profile project in 2021, giving the go-ahead to a massive $200 million picture that found Scorsese bringing together Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro (the two actors previously starred together in 1993 drama This Boy’s Life). An adaptation of David Grann’s best-selling 2017 non-fiction book, Killers of the Flower Moon is set in 1920s Oklahoma and depicts the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, a string of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror.

Scorsese wrote the screenplay with Oscar winner Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, Dune, A Star is Born), cinematographer is Rodrigo Prieto (The Irishman, The Wolf of Wall Street), and editor is three-time Oscar-winner and longtime Scorsese collaborator Thelma Schoonmaker (The Departed, The Aviator).

It’s a very promising trailer, hinting at a brutal story, another all-in performance from DiCaprio, and incredible period detail. Can’t wait. Oh, and as with Scorsese’s The Irishman, prepare for a long one: this is clocking in at 3 hours and 26 minutes.

Killers of the Flower Moon, also starring Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, and Jillian Dion, will be opening in select U.S. cinemas on October 6th, before opening wide on October 20th. The film opens in Australian cinemas on October 19th.
