A new trailer has arrived for Other Mommy, giving us another creepy look at Jessica Chastain‘s return to horror. The Oscar winner plays both a protective mother and the deeply unsettling entity trying to take her place. This new look may not have a jump scare to rival the under-the-table moment from the previous trailer, but there’s plenty here to keep the unease building. Watch the new trailer above and get the details below.
Jessica Chastain Is the Horror Show
The new footage opens on a considerably sweeter note, with young Bela (Arabella Olivia Clark) enjoying bath time with her mother, Ursula (Chastain). That warmth doesn’t last. Soon, Bela is once again talking about the woman she calls Other Mommy, insisting that the mysterious figure is actually rather nice.
More on Screen Realm:
The trailer gives Chastain more room to flip between Ursula’s growing fear and Other Mommy’s unnervingly sugary demeanour. There are creepy bedtime encounters, a colourful ball-pit sequence that quickly turns sinister and one particularly disturbing question: “Can I go into your heart?”
Bela also appears to be getting wiser to the deception, accusing one version of her mother of trying to trick her. With Other Mommy becoming increasingly bold, figuring out who is actually standing in front of her could be easier said than done.
Rob Savage Says Chastain Gets to “Play the Horror”

Director Rob Savage, whose credits include Host and The Boogeyman, has made it clear that Chastain’s performance is intended to be one of the film’s biggest effects.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Savage said of Chastain’s performance:
“The thing that’s so amazing about what Jessica’s allowed to do in this movie and is given space to do in this movie is that her performance really holds that space and is allowed to be the special effect, is allowed to play the horror. And between action and cut, she’s doing such phenomenal work.”
And anyone worried that the first trailer may have already deployed the film’s biggest scare shouldn’t get too comfortable. Asked how many jump scares he had packed into the movie, Savage joked, “Oh, like 50.”
From James Wan and the Author of Bird Box
Other Mommy is based on Josh Malerman’s bestselling novel Incidents Around the House. Malerman is also the author of Bird Box, which was adapted into the Sandra Bullock-led Netflix film.
Nathan Elston, who worked on Succession, penned the screenplay, while James Wan produces through Blumhouse Atomic Monster.
Jay Duplass stars as Bela’s father, known as Daddo, with Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed and Karen Allen among the supporting cast.
When Is Other Mommy Released?
Other Mommy opens in Australian cinemas on 8 October and U.S. cinemas on 9 October.
