The Power universe is rewinding the clock once again — but this time, it’s Ghost and Tommy stepping into the spotlight.
Starz has officially ordered Power: Origins, the fifth series in the ever-expanding crime drama franchise and the second prequel following Power Book III: Raising Kanan. The new instalment will follow younger versions of James “Ghost” St. Patrick and Tommy Egan, the characters originally played by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora.
Ghost and Tommy’s Rise
Set on the streets of New York City, Power: Origins promises to explore how Ghost and Tommy built their criminal empire from the ground up. According to the official logline, the series is “a fun, rambunctious exploration of a new time in the Power franchise, which will highlight the unbridled audacity of young men on the rise, determined to become legends in the game.”

Casting for the lead roles has yet to be announced. However, MeKai Curtis will return as young Kanan Stark, continuing his run from Raising Kanan, which is set to conclude with its fifth and final season in 2026. Given that Shameik Moore’s character Breeze was recently introduced in that show, there’s also potential for crossover — though Starz hasn’t confirmed Moore’s involvement at this stage.
Familiar Faces Behind the Scenes
Franchise veteran Sascha Penn, creator of Raising Kanan, will serve as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. In a statement, Penn said: “I’m excited to continue to explore the origin stories of the Power Universe’s founding fathers. Ghost and Tommy’s backstories have fueled years of constant fascination and speculation among fans, and I’m thrilled to be able to answer some long-held questions and share new layers of the story that viewers won’t see coming.”
Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming at Starz, added: “Our fans have been asking for Ghost and Tommy’s origins story since we first met them in Power — and with the launch of this series, we’re delivering in a big way.”
Power Keeps Expanding
Power: Origins will run for 18 episodes in its first season, produced by Lionsgate Television. Executive producers include franchise creator Courtney A. Kemp (via End of Episode), Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (through G-Unit Film and Television), Mark Canton (Canton Entertainment), Chris Selak, and Pete Chatmon.
This marks the sixth Power series overall, with Power Book IV: Force airing its third and final season later this year, and Power: Legacy (a working title) also in development.
No premiere date has been announced for Power: Origins, but with production gearing up, the streets of NYC may soon be echoing with familiar ambition.
