Apple TV+ has just dropped the official trailer for action-comedy The Instigators, starring Matt Damon and Casey Affleck. Watch it above.
Apple also released this amusing social media sketch that has Damon face-timing his co-stars, including NFL player Rob Gronkowski (he appears in the trailer at around the 40-second mark as a supporter of the mayor). The bit also brings in Chris Evans!
The Instigators revolves around Rory (played by Damon) and Cobby (Affleck), two unlikely partners in crime. Rory is a desperate father with nothing to lose, while Cobby is an ex-convict trying to navigate his way through life. The pair are forced together with a plan to rob a corrupt politician of his illicit fortune.
Of course, their meticulously planned heist takes a disastrous turn, plunging them into a chaotic escapade. They find themselves on the run, not only from the law but also from unscrupulous bureaucrats and ruthless crime lords who want their heads. As the stakes escalate, Rory and Cobby must enlist the help of Rory’s therapist, played Hong Chau (The Menu, The Whale). The trio embarks on a riotous journey through the city, dodging capture at every turn.
The film is helmed by director Doug Liman, known for The Bourne Identity, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Edge of Tomorrow, and recent Jake Gyllenhaal-starring remake Road House. Casey Affleck wrote the screenplay with Chuck MacLean, creator of Showtime series City on a Hill.
The film’s star-studded cast includes musician/actor Jack Harlow, Michael Stuhlbarg, Paul Walter Hauser, Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina, Toby Jones, and Ron Perlman.
The Instigators will be arriving on Apple TV+ on August 9th.
