HBO Max has released the official teaser trailer for The Pitt season 2, with Noah Wyle back in the chaos of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center’s ER. Watch the teaser above and read on for the details. And if you haven’t seen the first season yet… you’re missing out!
When season 2 is set and what the teaser shows
Season 2 picks up 10 months after the events of season 1 and unfolds during a particularly hectic Fourth of July weekend. Police storming through the halls, a crying woman, a baby, a patient losing it in an ambulance — it’s shaping up to be another emotional, action-packed chapter.

The teaser wastes no time throwing us back into the trenches. Robby (Wyle) clocks in for a new shift, greeted with a dry “The prodigal son returns” from a nurse. After expressing her desire to quit last season, we see Dana (Katherine LaNasa) is still here — shooting Robby a look as he arrives. Over at another corner of the chaotic ER, Santos (Isa Briones) responds to a rookie med student’s wide-eyed question — “You guys do this every day?” — with a simple, exhausted, “If we’re lucky.”
The premiere also marks Dr. Frank Langdon’s (Patrick Ball) first day back on the floor following his stint in rehab, setting the stage for a holiday shift that’s anything but festive.
Cast and creative team
Wyle continues to anchor the series as lead actor and executive producer — and he’s also directing two episodes this season. “I feel prepped, which is what you want to feel,” he said at this month’s Televerse TV festival (as quoted by Variety). “This has been such an amazing experience for me, all the way down the line.”
Also back are Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Isa Briones, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Shabana Azeez, and Gerran Howell. Shawn Hatosy returns as Dr. Jack Abbot and will direct episode nine, marking his first directing work since Animal Kingdom (where he also starred).
New cast members joining season 2 include Sepideh Moafi, Laëtitia Hollard, Charles Baker, Irene Choi, Lucas Iverson, Lawrence Robinson, and Zack Morris.
The series is created by R. Scott Gemmill and produced by John Wells, with executive producers including Wyle, Wells, Erin Jontow, Michael Hissrich, and Simran Baidwan.
Exits and shake-ups
Not everyone is coming back. Tracy Ifeachor will not return as senior resident Dr. Heather Collins. As TV Line reported in July, it was a “creative decision” not made by Ifeachor.
And there may be more departures ahead. “In terms of how brutal we’re willing to be, you’d be surprised,” Gemmill told CNN in April. “Some characters are more likely to leave than others based on where they are in their medical profession… we may have to see people leave just to keep it authentic.”
Wells added: “And people work different shifts. Not all the shifts are 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Just ’cause you don’t see someone in the first episodes doesn’t mean they’re not working.”
Meanwhile, Isa Briones teased “a lot of antics up ahead” for her character, Dr. Trinity Santos, and her roommate Dennis Whitaker (Gerran Howell). “They’ve spent 10 months together, so that can go one of two ways,” Howell said in an interview with Vanity Fair. “We’re still roommates!”
Critical acclaim and anticipation
The Pitt’s first season wasn’t just a hit in ratings; it became a critical darling too. On Rotten Tomatoes, the show boasts a glowing 95% from critics and an 86% audience score. Over on IMDb, it’s sitting at a massive 8.9, which currently ranks it at number 41 on the platform’s list of top-rated TV shows of all time.
With that kind of momentum, expectations for season 2 are high. The new chapter picks up nearly a year later and unfolds across a pressure-cooker Fourth of July weekend, promising more emotional weight, urgent cases, and fresh challenges drawn from real-world frontline healthcare experiences.
The Pitt season 2 premieres on HBO Max in January 2026 (exact date TBA).
