Christopher Nolan has cast acclaimed stars Anne Hathaway and Zendaya in his next high-profile project, adding to a stellar lineup that already includes Matt Damon and Tom Holland. The still-untitled film has been slated for a highly anticipated IMAX release on July 17, 2026.
The project marks Zendaya’s first collaboration with Nolan, while Hathaway returns for a third outing with the director, having previously starred in The Dark Knight Rises (2012) and Interstellar (2014). Both actresses have been quite busy with recent projects: Hathaway’s 2024 has included Mother’s Instinct, a thriller with Jessica Chastain, and the Amazon film The Idea of You, while her upcoming projects include Flowervale Station with Warner Bros. Zendaya started the year with Dune: Part Two, which grossed over $700 million globally, and tennis love-triangle drama Challengers at Amazon MGM Studios.
Filming for Nolan’s untitled feature is expected to begin in early 2025. According to Deadline, the outlet that broke the news about Hathaway and Zendaya’s casting, any plot descriptions currently circulating online are inaccurate, with true specifics still under wraps. That could mean that there’s little to no truth to the rumours of it being a vampire film, as was being whispered when news of Holland’s casting in the film was being reported in October. Universal Pictures, which distributed Nolan’s previous box office hit Oppenheimer, has not provided any additional information on the casting news.
Nolan’s longstanding partnership with Warner Bros. ended in 2020, leading to his first collaboration with Universal for Oppenheimer, a global success that grossed nearly $1 billion. This time, however, reports indicate that the studio directly picked up the new project without an open bidding process, reinforcing the ongoing partnership between Nolan and Universal.
July 2026 is shaping up to be a massive month for Holland and Zendaya, who have been dating in real life for a number of years. Not only will they be together in Nolan’s film, hitting U.S. cinemas on the 17th, but they’re also going to be in the next Spider-Man film being released just days later – on the 26th!
