‘Foundation’ Season 3: Apple TV+ Unveils Official Trailer as Premiere Date Approaches

Apple TV+ has unveiled the full trailer for Foundation season 3, offering a dramatic look at what’s next for David S. Goyer’s expansive sci-fi saga.

Set 152 years after the events of season two, season three finds the Foundation having grown far beyond its original status, while the once-mighty Cleonic Empire continues to decline. As both sides attempt to stabilise their uneasy alliance, a new threat rises: The Mule, a warlord determined to rule the galaxy through both military power and mind control.

The trailer highlights The Mule’s arrival, played by Game of Thrones alum Pilou Asbæk, while teasing his looming confrontation with Lou Llobell’s Gaal Dornick. As Gaal says in the footage, “The Mule’s abilities are far beyond anything I can do,” setting the stage for a conflict that could push the series further into its exploration of telepathic powers—known as “mentalics”—within Asimov’s larger canon.

While Foundation remains a loose adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s original novels, showrunner David S. Goyer has previously described the series as more of a remix, pulling from across the books to build its own version of the sprawling narrative. The introduction of Gaal as a key mentalic counter to The Mule signals one of the series’ biggest departures, offering a potential mind-versus-mind showdown that deviates from the original text’s structure.

Jared Harris and Lee Pace return as Hari Seldon and Brother Day, alongside Llobell, Laura Birn, Cassian Bilton, Terrence Mann, and Alfred Enoch. New cast members this season include Cherry Jones, Brandon P. Bell, Synnøve Karlsen, Cody Fern, Tómas Lemarquis, Alexander Siddig, Oscar-winner Troy Kotsur, and Asbæk.

The 10-episode third season premieres on Apple TV+ on July 11, with new episodes streaming weekly through September 12.
