Netflix has dropped the trailer for The Waterfront, a drama series soaked in secrets, scandals, and Southern tension. Led by Holt McCallany, Maria Bello, Melissa Benoist, and Jake Weary, the eight-episode saga comes from Scream and Dawson’s Creek creator Kevin Williamson. Take a look above and learn more below.
A Family Legacy Under Threat
The Buckleys have long ruled the local fishing and restaurant industries. But patriarch Harlan Buckley (McCallany) is sidelined by two heart attacks, leaving his wife Belle (Bello) and son Cane (Weary) scrambling to hold things together — sometimes crossing legal and moral lines to do it.
Meanwhile, daughter Bree (Benoist), in recovery and estranged from her son, finds herself in a relationship that could fracture the family further. As the situation spirals, Harlan steps back in, determined to save the empire he built — no matter the cost.

“This is about a working man who’s trying to make a go of it for his family,” Williamson told Netflix site Tudum. “They’ve pulled themselves up from nothing and they’ve built this mini fishing empire in their small little town. Now it’s being taken away from them bit by bit. They’ll do anything to hold onto it, because it represents their family.”
He adds, “It’s just about a bunch of people who make mistakes. They do some bad things and then they get in deeper and deeper and deeper. Sometimes they keep making worse mistakes and sometimes they find their way out and do the good thing.”
The Cast and a Familiar Setting
The ensemble cast includes McCallany, Bello, Benoist, and Weary, alongside Rafael L. Silva, Humberly González, Danielle Campbell, and Brady Hepner. Guest stars include Topher Grace, Dave Annable, and Zach Roerig — a familiar face from Williamson’s The Vampire Diaries.
The Waterfront was shot in and around Wilmington and Southport, North Carolina — a homecoming of sorts for Williamson, who previously used the region for iconic projects like I Know What You Did Last Summer and Dawson’s Creek.
Marcos Siega (You, Dexter: New Blood) directs the first two episodes and executive produces the pilot. Ben Fast executive produces for Outerbanks Entertainment.
Release Date
All eight episodes of The Waterfront will be streaming on Netflix from June 19.
