Netflix has released the official for Untamed, a limited series that places Eric Bana and Sam Neill deep in the wilds of Yosemite National Park — and asks what horrors might be hiding just beyond the tourist trails. Take a look above and learn more about the series below.
The footage opens with an apparent accident: a climber’s fatal fall from El Capitan. But ranger-turned-special agent Kyle Turner (Bana) isn’t buying the easy explanation. As his new partner Naya Vasquez (Lily Santiago, La Brea) observes, “She was hurt, scared… she was running from something.”
A Ranger Who Fits the Wilderness Better Than the World
Creators Mark L. Smith (American Primeval, The Revenant) and Elle Smith (The Marsh King’s Daughter) wrote Turner with Bana in mind. “Kyle Turner is someone who is much more comfortable in the wild […] than he is with other humans or with the modern world,” Mark told Netflix site Tudum. The actor’s knack for conveying turmoil without a word sealed the deal: “because he’s just so good at playing silence.” Elle added, “He can do strength and sensitivity at the same time, which we felt was really rare — and he looks good on a horse.”

Turner’s search takes him from Yosemite’s visitor hub to itinerant tent camps and miles of unpatrolled back-country, where a rogue wildlife officer (Wilson Bethel, Daredevil) might be harbouring deadly secrets. All the while, Turner wrestles with guilt over a past case. “What we’re seeing happen in real time is the grief that he’s going through, but also what he can do for the next girl, what he can do for this case, and how can he serve her family by solving this case,” Elle explained.
In the trailer, Chief ranger Paul Souter (Neill) puts the challenge plainly: “We have close to a million acres of wilderness.” That’s a lot of places for a killer to hide — and plenty of room for Turner’s own demons to howl.
Cast & Creative Team
Alongside Bana, Neill, Santiago, and Bethel, the six-episode thriller also stars Rosemarie DeWitt, Ezra Franky, and Josh Randall. Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith serve as creators, with Bana pulling double duty as one of the show’s executive producers.
Untamed hits Netflix worldwide on July 17.
