‘Murderbot’ Trailer: Alexander Skarsgård is a Rogue Robot in Apple TV+ Sci-Fi Series

Apple TV+ has dropped the first trailer for Murderbot, its upcoming Alexander Skarsgård-starring sci-fi series based on Martha Wells’ award-winning The Murderbot Diaries books — and it looks like we’re in for a darkly funny, genre-bending ride. At the centre of it all: a rogue security android with zero interest in heroism and even less patience for humans. Take a look above and learn more below.

Played by Skarsgård (who also serves as executive producer), Murderbot is a part-machine, part-human construct that’s hacked its own programming to escape corporate control. Instead of tackling a critical operation, it desires… less pressing priorities. As Apple’s official synopsis reads, “Murderbot must hide its free will and complete a dangerous assignment when all it really wants is to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out its place in the universe.”

Naturally, peace isn’t in the cards. Murderbot is pulled into a high-stakes mission involving a team of humans in need of protection, a powerful corporation with secrets to hide, and plenty of rogue A.I. threats lurking in the shadows.

The 10-episode series is created by Academy Award nominees Chris and Paul Weitz (About a Boy, Mozart in the Jungle), who write, direct, and produce. The cast also includes Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones, and Tamara Podemski.

The first two episodes of Murderbot will premiere on Apple TV+ on May 16, with new episodes dropping weekly through to the finale on July 11.
