Oscar winner Michael B. Jordan is bringing Thomas Crown back to the big screen. Amazon MGM Studios has released the official teaser trailer for The Thomas Crown Affair, an action-charged reimagining of the 1968 Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway classic, previously remade in 1999 with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. Jordan directs and stars opposite Adria Arjona (Andor, Hit Man). Watch the trailer above and read on for what to know.
Revenge Is a Work of Art
Jordan plays Thomas Crown, a billionaire thief who has, as his voiceover informs us, been taking risks his entire life.

“But last night, it was different. I felt alive,” he says.
Whatever happened “last night” remains unclear, but Crown has no intention of slowing down. “I’m not finished yet. That’s what excites me.”
The footage offers flashes of his dangerous, expensive world: racing, museum infiltration, skyscraper stunts and a considerable amount of hand-to-hand combat. This is not simply a bored rich man stealing for the thrill of it, either. The tagline “Revenge is a work of art” points to a personal mission involving Kenneth Branagh’s character.
Arjona plays the insurance investigator attempting to catch Crown, although professional suspicion quickly gives way to dangerous attraction.
“I know exactly who you are,” she tells him.
What follows is the familiar Thomas Crown Affair dance of pursuit, seduction and shifting loyalties. Crown appears just as interested in drawing her into the game as he is in escaping it.
“If you don’t jump, you can’t catch me,” he says before stepping from a cliff into the water below.
Michael B. Jordan’s Reimagining Gets Crown’s Hands Dirty
McQueen and Brosnan largely kept their hands clean. This Crown fights at close quarters, handles weapons and places himself directly in the line of fire, pushing the material closer to a glossy action thriller.
Jordan previously told Deadline that he does not consider the film a conventional remake or reboot.
“I think it’s not going to be what exactly people are expecting as well,” he said. “When you’re re-imagining something, it’s not a remake. It’s not a reboot. It’s a re-imagination, and I’m really excited about it because I really care about this movie and its title.”
The Thomas Crown Affair Returns for a Third Generation
The original 1968 film starred Steve McQueen as a wealthy businessman who masterminds a bank robbery. Faye Dunaway played the insurance investigator who becomes his opponent and romantic equal.
Director John McTiernan remade the film in 1999, shifting the central crime to an art theft. Pierce Brosnan played Crown, with Rene Russo as the investigator pursuing him.
Jordan’s version marks his second feature as director following Creed III. He also produces alongside Elizabeth Raposo, Marc Toberoff, Patrick McCormick and Charles Roven.
Alongside Jordan, Arjona and Branagh, the cast includes Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira and Pilou Asbæk.
Taylor Russell (Bones and All, Waves) was previously attached to co-star opposite Jordan, but left the project due to creative differences. Arjona was cast just days later.
The screenplay comes from Drew Pearce (The Fall Guy) and Jason Hall (Gran Turismo), working from a story credited to Alan R. Trustman and Pearce. It is based on Trustman’s screenplay for the original film, with Hall and Trustman serving as executive producers.
Release Date
The Thomas Crown Affair opens in Australian cinemas on March 4 and U.S. cinemas on March 5, 2027.
