Take a look above at the official trailer that Netflix has released for Virgin River season 6, hitting the streaming service this month. It’s a milestone for our characters: the new season centres on Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson) as they prepare for their wedding.
Wedding Bells
“I knew this season needed to be the wedding season,” showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Netflix site Tudum. “It was time. It felt like a great event to build around, so everybody had as much forethought and time to plan as possible … It felt very Virgin River in its production — the ambition of it, and that we’re a small group of people that care about something so much: the fans. So we just busted our humps to get it done.”
The show will also be diving deeper into Mel and Jack’s evolving future. Having purchased Lilly’s farm in the previous season, the couple is turning the property into their dream home while continuing their path to parenthood.
New Faces, Nostalgic Flashbacks, and a Directorial Debut
Fans will be getting a fresh perspective on Mel’s origins. We’ll be flashing back to the 1970s, with Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day) and Callum Kerr (One Piece) playing Sarah and Everett, younger versions of Mel’s parents. John Allen Nelson plays present-day Everett.
“Getting to look at a different romantic relationship but still in the world of Virgin River is exciting,” said Smith. “I think with Mel and Jack, they’ve gone through so much, and to get to see another couple in the same universe dealing with the ups and downs of a love story just feels like a fresh opportunity.”
Meanwhile, familiar faces like Preacher (Colin Lawrence), Brady (Benjamin Hollingsworth), and Kaia (Kandyse McClure) embark on new journeys. Brady, for instance, begins volunteering at the Virgin River fire station under Fire Chief Kaia, while Kaia is drawn into Preacher’s unresolved past.
Season 6 also marks a special achievement for star Martin Henderson. The New Zealand-born actor, who’s been with the show since episode 1, will be making his directorial debut this season.
Release Date
Virgin River Season 6 will be streaming on Netflix from December 19th.
