Amazon MGM Studios has dropped the official trailer for After the Hunt, the psychological thriller from filmmaker Luca Guadagnino (Challengers, Call Me by Your Name). The film stars Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, Andrew Garfield, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Chloë Sevigny. Watch the trailer above and read on for the details.
A College Scandal Unfolds
After the Hunt centres on Alma (Julia Roberts), a respected college professor whose personal and professional life begins to spiral when a student named Maggie (Ayo Edebiri) accuses fellow professor Hank (Andrew Garfield) of sexual assault. The accusation ripples across the campus, challenging reputations and forcing Alma to confront a secret from her past that’s been buried for years.
The trailer introduces a clash of ideologies from the start. “All your generation, you’re scared of saying the wrong thing. When did offending someone become the preeminent cardinal sin?” Hank says to Maggie. Her response? “Maybe it’s around the same time your generation started making sweeping generalizations about ours.”

From that point, the drama deepens: Maggie states, “He crossed the line,” while Hank counters by accusing her of plagiarism. In the middle is Alma, balancing the weight of her history and the pressure of the present.
Roberts Leads a Powerful Cast
Alongside Roberts, Edebiri, and Garfield, the film features Michael Stuhlbarg and Chloë Sevigny, two performers who previously worked with Guadagnino on Call Me By Your Name and We Are Who We Are, respectively. The cast also includes other prominent names such as Josh Hamilton and Will Ropp.
The screenplay comes from Nora Garrett, who also executive produces. Guadagnino produces via his Frenesy banner, alongside Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum. Karen Lunder (Imagine) also serves as executive producer.
Behind the Scenes with Guadagnino
Talking to Deadline at CinemaCon 2025, Andrew Garfield reflected on Guadagnino’s unique directing approach. “What was exciting and surprising about being with Luca on set was how loose he is, how relaxed he is, how kind of spontaneous, in the moment and totally focused when he needs to be,” Garfield said. “He’s such a precise filmmaker, simultaneously, so I found that deeply surprising.”
Ayo Edebiri added that the film is built for conversation. “It’s a movie to see with other people, to talk about and discuss and just feel.”
Release Date
In the U.S, After the Hunt will be opening in select cinemas (New York and Los Angeles) on October 10 and expands nationwide on October 17. Sony Pictures releases the film in Australian cinemas on October 16.
