Warner Bros. Pictures has unveiled a new trailer for Trap, the latest from The Sixth Sense, Split, Glass and Knock at the Cabin filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan.

The plot revolves around a father and his teenage daughter attending a pop concert, only to find themselves at the centre of a dark and sinister event: a serial killer – known as “The Butcher” – is believed to be at the concert and the authorities intend on trapping him. And here’s the kicker: the father (played by Josh Hartnett) is the killer.

The film’s cast includes Ariel Donoghue, Hayley Mills, and Allison Pill, as well as rising music star Saleka Shyamalan (the director’s daughter).

Shyamalan recently revealed to Empire that he pitched the film with quite the provocative concept: “What if The Silence of the Lambs happened at a Taylor Swift concert?” The filmmaker says he drew inspiration from a real-life 1985 sting operation called Operation Flagship, where U.S. Marshals used the lure of NFL tickets to capture wanted criminals. “The cops were literally cheerleaders and mascots,” he said. “These guys were dancing as they came in. And they were all caught. It was so twisted and funny.”

The behind-the-scenes crew includes cinematographer is by Sayombhu Mukdeeprom (Call Me by Your Name), production designer Debbie de Villa (The Hating Game), editor Noëmi Preiswerk, and. composer Herdĭs Stefănsdŏttir (Knock at the Cabin).

Trap is slated for Australian release on August 1st and US release on August 2nd.
