Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is backing a new gangster drama, Moses the Black, marking the latest film under his G-Unit Film and Television banner. The feature is set to star Omar Epps (Power Book III: Raising Kanan), Chukwudi Iwuji (The Day Of The Jackal, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), and rap stars Wiz Khalifa (Dickinson, Mac & Devin Go to High School) and Quavo (Savage Salvation).

Set in present-day Chicago, Moses the Black centres on Malik, a gang leader played by Epps. The story is inspired by the real-life tale of Saint Moses the Black, a fifth-century figure whose violent past gave way to repentance. Khalifa plays 2wo-3ree, the unpredictable leader of Malik’s younger crew. Quavo is on board as Straw, Malik’s rival, while Iwuji will portray Saint Moses himself.

The film is written and directed by Yelena Popovic, who previously helmed 2021 film Man of God, and produced by Popovic and Alexandros Potter through their company, Simeon Faith.

Deadline broke the news, reporting that principal photography on the film is expected to kick off in Chicago later this spring.

“I’m excited to be a part of Moses the Black as an executive producer. Collaborating with great talent ensures we’re bringing authentic and compelling stories to the screen. Yelena’s vision for this film is sure to create a hit,” said Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson in a statement. The rapper-turned-producer also took to social media to share the news: “My new movie (Moses the black) is gonna be out of here,” he posted. “Stop playing with me I’m not playing. [sic]”

Said Epps in a statement, “Yelena Popovic is an immensely impactful storyteller, and I’m looking forward to bringing Moses the Black to life alongside this incredibly talented group of artists.”

Added Khalifa: “I’m excited to be working with Yelena and alongside Omar, Quavo and Chukwudi on Moses the Black. As an actor and executive producer on the project, I can’t wait to start shooting and for all my fans to see the film!”

Epps and Khalifa are executive producing under their respective banners, BrooklynWorks Films and Taylor Gang Films. Financing is being handled by Simeon Faith and the Nick Mirkopoulos Cinematic Fund, backed by the Pissios family of Chicago and the Mirkopoulos family of Toronto. Both families are also on board as executive producers.

The film marks the first production for Simeon Faith and adds yet another title to Jackson’s ever-expanding slate, including BMF and the Power Universe. Jackson recently exec produced the theatrically-released sequel Den of Thieves 2: Pantera.

No release date has been announced yet.
